Packing

Our on-site Packing process is an efficient and effective operation.

The Pencoyd Court Farm fruit pickers pick the fresh produce into punnets, which are then taken a short distance to the packing line at our Windmill Hill Packhouse facilities.

Only the best quality fruit leaves for the stores, so all produce must face a strict once-over by our inspection team. The fruit is weighed, heat-sealed, labelled and barcoded, before being packed into crates and palletised. It's then ready for dispatch through our network of refrigerated transport.

This all takes place within such close proximity that the fruit is sure to remain nice and chilled at all times, promoting a better quality fruit with a longer shelf life. It's all part of our total quality management system, which we pride ourselves on.

What's more, as part of a thriving Herefordshire community of farmers, we offer our fellow growers the opportunity to use these facilities too. It's one of the ways that we help out smaller local businesses, who do not wish to make the substantial Packhouse investment. (In fact, we started out by packing in a rented ex-apple store site!)
